Road templates allow the civil engineer to set up the parameters of a road within a template,
and thereafter, to model any road cross-section where the required widths, cross-falls, layerworks, surfaces, components (including sidewalks, retaining walls and gabions) and
the barriers are automatically represented.
Not only does this save considerable design time, allowing the application of pre-defined road templates as required, it also facilitates
collaborative workflow processes because a design team can make use of specified, shared templates according to the project at hand.
The introduction of new safety regulations, the impact of greater traffic density, new vehicle types and
changing environmental factors mean that it is frequently necessary to alter or rehabilitate existing roadway infrastructure to comply with new standards.

Creating Road Templates in Civil Designer Software
Civil Designer's Road Template functionality makes it easy to design a road profile and view the end result.
The program's testing function allows the designer to see how the end-product is going to function.
The Template Editor also has interactive design features for compulsory additions, cut and fill slopes, kerbs and layerworks.
Pre-defined features such as retaining walls, side drains, sidewalks and parking areas can be added to the template simply by drag and drop.
It is also possible to import road template control points from a drawing as well as create a CAD drawing from an existing road template.
Creating Road Templates for Different Road Segments
Where different design criteria apply to different sections of the same road, for example during rural to urban environment transitions, Civil
Designer allows the engineer to split a single road into segments where each segment implements the required road template, without the need to change the existing design model.
It is also possible to define certain parameters that must be applied within the same template, based on the varying cut and fill conditions of the roadway.
