Civil Designer 8.0 (2016) Beta
Civil Designer 8.0 Beta has been launched and is currently undergoing stringent testing. The naming convention of future version releases will now match the software build allocation instead of the year of release.
The latest version provides enhanced 3D rendering capabilities, significantly more power and efficiency in handling massive Lidar datasets and allows for the manipulation of large CAD drawings without lagging. View a list of the new version 8.0 functionality on the Civil Designer website.
The full release version will be available in a few weeks. Contact us if you need to bring your subscription up to date so that you can benefit from the latest version as soon as it is released.
BULK WATER AND RETICULATION PROJECT - Royal HaskoningDHV
Royal HaskoningDHV has been involved in a large scale bulk water pipeline project in KwaZulu-Natal. The pipeline is part of a large infrastructure project involving the design of roads, sewer networks, bulk water and reticulations to meet the growing demands in the Newcastle Municipality area.
Civil engineer Sanele Motaung explained that "the project involved a 7km stretch of a huge DN 1600 steel pipeline with massive concrete chambers. Civil Designer's ease of use contributed to the efficiency of the design process."
Roads Feature Focus
Civil Designer 8.0 adds more functionality to the generation of rendered 3D fly-throughs. You can specify the speed of travel along the specified path, drape an aerial image on the terrain and now also, define the fly-through altitude as a negative value. This means that it is now possible to generate a visualisation of the sub-surface terrain that includes the underground services and road fixtures relevant to your infrastructure project.
The fly-through provides an additional tool for visualising the scope of a project and locating entities or service clashes which might need further attention. It can also be exported as a video file for use in presentations and project discussions.
Water Feature Focus
IMPORTING LONGITUDINAL SECTIONS
Importing pipes with exact vertical alignment was possible in previous versions, but it required the designer to create a pipe with desired horizontal alignment and then import the longitudinal section in the Vertical Alignment window. Discrepancies between the actual pipe lengths indicated in the horizontal alignment and imported data could cause the function to produce unexpected results.
In Civil Designer 8.0 a new function reads the horizontal and vertical alignment simultaneously. The elevation value can be either the invert level or the top of the pipe where existing surveyor's data is available. The function can be used to update existing pipes or create new ones.
EXPORTING LONGITUDINAL SECTIONS
In response to specific client requests we have introduced new export functionality which extends the pipe routes feature introduced in the 2015 version.
You can select which routes should be exported to a comma delimited file. Exported longitudinal sections contain pipe data, the horizontal and vertical alignment, exact bend angles and pipe fittings.
