| CIVIL DESIGNER NEWS AND UPDATES |
Welcome to 2010
As 2010 gains momentum its greatly satisfying to see the advantages of both Civil Designer and AllyCAD being put to great use in so many important projects across Africa as the world's focus shifts direction to the Fifa World Cup and various corridor projects throughout the continent. While World Cup construction projects have gained a high profile, 2010 is certainly not all about stadiums and surrounding infrastructure! Although we must say that it is very rewarding to know that Civil Designer has been used in nearly every single stadium and related infrastructure project in South Africa. With many corridor projects on the rise, it is also great to finally see Civil Designer literally being used everywhere with an ever growing number of users through Africa too.
Civil Designer beats the competition
City of Cape Town chooses the Civil Designer & AllyCAD combo and purchases R1.74million worth of software
With keeping in line with their policy to continuously maintain and escalate their high levels of performance, the City of Cape Town has acquired fully integrated infrastructure design software platforms to the value of R1.74million. The software, developed and supplied by Knowledge Base, has been used in the design of significant infrastructure projects in the city such as the Green Point Stadium, M5/Koeberg Interchange, IRT System, Green Point Common, Granger Bay Boulevard and Hospital Bend.
Development Bank of South Africa chooses the Civil Designer & AllyCAD combo to be implemented into 113 local municipalities
The Development Bank of South Africa, in conjunction with the South African Institution of Civil Engineering (SAICE), did an intensive technical evaluation of all the infrastructure design software available in South Africa. At the end of this process the DBSA/SAICE panel chose AllyCAD and Civil Designer for implementation at 113 local municipalities. The general consensus was that no other infrastructure software offers the depth of design features that are available in the AllyCAD/Civil Designer system.
Dept of Roads & Transport for Grahamstown and the Dept of Transport for Pietermaritzburg & Durban choose Civil Designer
Last year we were also pleased to see the Dept of Roads & Transport for Grahamstown and the Department of Transport for Pietermaritzburg & Durban acquire Civil Designer for their upcoming projects.
With even bigger purchases both locally and internationally in the pipeline, Civil Designer is truly helping civil engineers go beyond their expectations.
Civil Designer 2010
A quantum leap in design functionality
We are happy to announce that Civil Designer 2010 is on track to be released in the first half of this year. We are excited about its imminent release and look forward to giving you a quantum
leap in design functionality. Civil Designer 2010 is the platform for us to reach new international heights that we never would have thought possible 21 years ago. Not only is Civil Designer 2010 going to be fully compatible with the latest DWG formats, it will also offer 3D functionality.
To help ensure that you have a short learning curve when moving to Civil Designer 2010, we have only made minor changes to the interface, thereby retaining the look and feel of the existing version, although we have improved it from a visual appeal. We have also significantly improved and added many new design functions with more on the horizon due to the more powerful design format. A huge amount of time and effort has been put into the 3D CAD engine that is embedded in the Design Centre module which has also resulted in the following improvements to speed up your design time and improve on service delivery:
- Automatic updating of production drawings when changing the model. Production drawings such as layout plans, cross sections and long sections will be created into Layouts using our powerful Sheetfile system.
- The completely new Sheetfile editor uses normal CAD functionality which means you will no longer have to deal with intimidating spreadsheets.
- Civil Designer's entities such as roads, sewer and stormwater pipes and dtm points can now be edited using normal CAD functionality (select, move, delete etc). Snap modes and jumps will also work on Civil Designer entities as it would on normal CAD entities like lines and arcs resulting in much improved CAD interaction with Civil Designer data.
- We have also retained the concept of keeping the data in separate files which is better than storing everything in the drawing file. Not only does this keep the drawing size smaller making it faster to work with and easier to send to clients but it also is better for data protection and integrity.
If you are behind in your upgrade and support contract, now is the time to get back on board to ensure that you get your copy of Civil Designer 2010! Please contact info@knowbase.co.za if your contract has expired and we will get one of our key account managers to get back to you.
Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery
It has come to our attention that the "The CAD Corporation", an AutoDesk reseller, has taken a significant amount of our website content and copied and pasted it onto one of their websites www.civilengineeringsoft.co.za. Hopefully by the time this email goes out, all will be corrected as we have informed them that we have picked up this copyright infringement on their home page.
A similar incident took place last year by a South African reseller for Pytha CAD. They copied our page content so perfectly that they forgot to remove our contact details! It became really confusing for us when we suddenly had a few Pytha CAD users calling us and demanding support when their software has nothing to do with us! At the end of the day we simply have to accept that copying one's work is the ultimate form of flattery, however we would like to warn all our clients to be careful of the communications of our less capable competitors.
