SURVEY + TERRAIN
Digital Terrain Modeling,
interactive earthworks design and calculations,
complex survey calculations, error figures and
control surveys. |
What is Survey + Terrain?
Survey + Terrain is a digital terrain modeling program
that provides interactive earthworks design and
calculations. In addition to the functions in Design
Centre, this module incorporates more complex survey
calculations, error figures and control surveys. It will handle the
whole process from initial field work through design and
working drawings to the final construction control.
Why Choose Survey + Terrain?
CREATE AND CALCULATE VOLUMES OF TERRACES
You can create a terrace in a number of ways — by
importing, typing or graphically defining the corner
coordinates. Generate the terrace banks and toepoints
with variable slopes by simply specifying the bank
criteria. If you don’t like the terrace you can change
the layout or simply drag it to another position on the
site.
Calculate the volume of a terrace in seconds or balance
the cut and fill volumes with the optimization function.
You can even manipulate an individual terrace on a
multi-terrace site.
SWITCH BETWEEN DIFFERENT 'WHAT IF' SCENARIOS
The ability to store the terrace design in any one of
the 128 surfaces allows you to very easily switch
between different ‘what-if’ scenarios, and to calculate
the difference in volume in each case. Once you have
finalised your design you can merge the terrace with the
underlying ground profile to create a final site model
quickly and easily.
You can choose to have the volumes reported in either
SABS 1200 or COLTO format with user-defined depth
categories, top soil stripping and compaction or bulking
factors.
EXTRACT LONG AND CROSS SECTIONS
You can extract long and cross sections which can be
viewed or plotted, and you can even edit the cross
sections graphically.
VISUALISATION AND PRESENTATION
To help you to see the bigger picture you can visualize
the final project in a rendered three dimensional view,
with light source, textures and bitmap draping. In fact,
you could even “fly” through the site if you want to.
PIPE FUNCTIONS
The pipe functions allow you to generate pipeline long
sections with pipes between manholes, pipes defined by
length or pipes parallel to the ground profile. You can
fine-tune the design graphically before calculating
trench volumes to SABS 1200 or COLTO specification.
SURVEY CALCULATIONS
Perform survey calculations like resections,
intersections, heighting, double polars and LO to
geographical conversions in no time.
2D-LEAST SQUARES NETWORK ADJUSTMENT
Display up to 200 observations as well as the error
ellipse. Points can be manipulated by rotating, moving,
deleting, removing duplicate points and screening out
dense points within a specified distance of each other.
You can also compare the difference between points and
list them in position and elevation between two
surfaces.

“It saved me so much time, particularly on the
earthworks ... It is so accurate and easy to use”
Tiaan de Necker
V3 Consulting Engineers Bloemfontein

“The software is intuitive and easy to use, I can
simply concentrate on doing my work.”
Martin Koekemoer
V3 Consulting Engineers Durban

“Civil Designer just made the job so easy, it is
reliable and easy to use, so I could get on and
simply work.”
Nazeer Rahbeeni
Arcus Gibb Cape Town

“Accurate measurement of volumes is
one of the most important requirements when
progressing from natural ground levels to final
design levels. That is where Civil Designer again
becomes an invaluable aid.”
Coenraad Oosthuysen
Protekon

“The volume of stockpiles is
measured in just a couple of hours with the use of
Civil Designer. I find that the software handles
these calculations quickly and with such ease.”
Matt Pepe
Matt Pepe & Associates

“The relevant data from the
engineering survey was transferred into CIVIL
DESIGNER so that we could create a model of the
terrain. The road was divided into two sections so
that each member of the engineering joint venture
could design their own section. With the help of
CIVIL DESIGNER, we were able to perform all the
calculations with speed, allowing us to optimise
cut and fill volumes.”
Ties Bos
Saunders and Wium

“This is where a program like CIVIL
DESIGNER is particularly helpful, as it could
handle our numerous changes with absolute ease. In
theory, we could do the design on site on a
laptop, draw in the design criteria, survey it and
then peg points according to requirements.”
