KNOWLEDGE BASE SHINES AT IMESA CONFERENCE
 |
The 70th Annual IMESA Conference and Exhibition took place from Wednesday 11th to Friday 13 October 2006 at the University of Johannesburg,
Soweto Campus. The conference was a huge success and saw the greatest turnout ever with approximately 700 attendees per day.

Knowledge Base exhibited their software Civil Designer and AllyCAD and also set up a Knowledge Base
Recruitment stand at this years exhibition in order to assist companies with the sourcing of
skilled civil engineers. The last day of the exhibition ended on a high note when
Knowledge Base was awarded with a prize for the best IMESA 2006 stand.

District Municipality, PD Naidoo & Associates and the Government of Malawi / European Union Public Works Programme for winning the 2005 SAICE 'Most Outstanding Civil Engineering Project Achievements' in the categories Community-based, Technical Excellence and International Projects respectively.
Knowledge Base received a special award for the company that provided the most support to SAICE as a body during the 2005 financial year. The Joint initiative related to the SAICE/Knowledge Base Tsunami Aid was mentioned as well as the ongoing support to the South African Institute of Civil Engineering magazine.

VERSATILE STRINGS
|
Civil Designer's Strings functionality is both dynamic and versatile in its operation. Strings can be used to design complicated terraces like side drain benching and graded surfaces, ideal for designing parking areas, curved dam walls, berms and channels with complicated benching. The screen (left) shows a graded parking area.

The dynamic character of Strings means that a change to the master string is reflected and updated in the child String. This is due to the hierarchical nature of Strings which allows a designer to change his design by simply moving a corner of the terrace, grading a string or surface, or moving the entire terrace without having to regenerate all the affected Strings. The affected Strings and toe-points will then automatically be re-calculated in a matter of seconds.
You can create a triangulated DTM surface from a series of Strings by simply running the String to DTM function. The DTM functionality in Civil Designer allows you to calculate quantities, create a contour plan and generate a 3D view. You can also modify a newly created String from both the plan and long section views quickly and with minimum effort.
