POINT FILTERING
Point filtering enables you to be selective when applying point manipulation routines so that only the points which meet the filter criteria are changed. In Civil Designer 6.5 the filter dialog has been extended to incorporate filtering by height and by fence area. Height filtering allows, for example, the option of deleting all points with zero height. The position filtering function also lets you specify a predefined fenced area of points which are to be included in or excluded from the filtering.

ECSA Aligns Foreign Qualifications |
|
| |

|
With an increase in the number of engineering practitioners from abroad seeking employment in South Africa and seeking registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA), the council is in the process of implementing a new assessment process, which will expedite the registration of
|
foreign engineering practitioners holding qualifications unknown to the council. As of 15 August, ECSA commenced an assessment of foreign practitioners' qualifications to determine the equivalent in South African terms. Foreign applicants now receive advice as to the category of registration that they should apply for.
This saves time in the registration process and assists prospective employers to determine an applicant's level of competence.
ECSA has explained that this assessment process only applies where qualifications are not already covered under an international engineering accreditation category.

Maths & Science Outreach |

|
SAICE has recently received an award from the Council for the Built Environment for the 2008 Award for
Exemplary Youth and Skills Intervention and for Contribution to the Built Environment. SAICE's major

interventions are the SAICE International Bridge Building Competition and the SAICE Centenary Schools Water Competition, where learners have to design and construct a water distribution network system. This is one of only a few competitions where theory and practice in Science and Maths really come together. The finals of the SAICE-DFC Water 'Centenary Schools Water Competition' will be held at the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre in Newtown, Johannesburg on Friday, 5 September 2008. For more information, contact Marie Ashpole from SAICE on 011 805 5947 or email
