THE
TURN MODULE IN CIVIL DESIGNER
The
Turn module is a versatile and easy to use program that is used
extensively in a number of projects to design roundabouts,
intersections, parking areas, loading bays and warehouses. This
integrated module of Civil Designer simulates the low speed
turning manoeuvres of user defined vehicles along a specified
tracking path.
You can define the tracking path centre line which can be done
automatically or manually. You can also specify the vehicle
group file name where an active vehicle may be selected from the
Vehicle combo box. In addition, vehicles may be added to the
current Vehicle Group file or even deleted from the group. The
interval at which the defined track path may be coordinated, can
be specified in the Coordination Interval (m) edit box. If you
make this value small, the simulation will be accurate but slow.
More line entities will also be added to the drawing structure.
We
support the following vehicle configurations:
The
simulation required may be specified in the Simulation Type
combo box. You can also specify the direction that the vehicle
should travel on the track path. Forward and reverse simulations
can be done using any of the above vehicle configurations. In
addition, the minimum turning envelopes can be generated by
simply indicating a start position and an initial direction of
movement. You can then drag the entire envelope to check
critical sections of intersections, traffic circles and parking
areas. Each simulation displays an output graph which can be
used to determine how close the design vehicle is to any point
along the path at its maximum steering angle. The Turn module
allows you to configure intricate vehicle routes according to
the type of vehicle required quickly and effectively and can be
one of your best time saving tools ever!

TECH TIP TUTORIAL
How to convert Final Road Design Into DTM Surface
This Tech Tip explains how to
convert the final road levels into a DTM surface. Firstly you
need to make sure the new road DTM is created in a surface that
contains no data, in this example the ground DTM is in surface 1
and therefore the road DTM will be created in surface 2.

“This was one of
those jobs where we used just about everything in the CIVIL
DESIGNER package. If we didn't have the package, I suppose we
would have been a bit lost given the time constraints. One of
the really strong points about this program is that you are able
to vary everything with templates – you can create a template
for virtually every scenario you work with."
