KNOWLEDGE BASE PENDING BBBEE STATUS

As a service provider that prides itself on being at the forefront of business, we are currently in the process of developing our own BBBEE score card for the Group. We have employed the services of Labour Aid (Pty) Ltd who will be evaluating us against specific focus areas and allocating a score to the Knowledge Base Group. Once allocated, the score will be valid for the 2006/2007 year and will allow clients to receive additional points in the procurement category when applying for their rating score cards.

Knowledge Base has always been committed to Engineering as a practice and has contributed to skills development in the form of our corporate social responsibility investment in the education sector. As part of our social responsibility plan, we supply our software to all tertiary institutions at a heavily discounted rate. Today, more than 95% of all South African Technikons have incorporated our software with great success into their engineering curriculum. We are also assisting the Department of Education with the implementation of CAD by offering our software at no cost to all secondary schools nationally and train all educators at a heavily discounted rate.

Checking Sight Distances

Civil Designer's Roads Module allows you to calculate the areas along a road alignment where the driver cannot see a specified object over a specified minimum sight distance. These areas will be marked in the specified pen colour on either the Vertical, or Horizontal alignment.

Civil Designer uses a complex 3D iteration taking the horizontal and vertical alignments as well as the road profile into account. If the offset of the toe points is less than the specified road reserve, then the program will include ground points beyond the toe point and up to the road reserve width.

Vertical sight failure will occur if a driver is unable to see the object over the minimum sight distance because of a vertical curve, or when cut banks or other road profile features restrict his vision.

The 'no sight' envelopes will be drawn in either the Design Centre window, or the Vertical Alignment window in the selected pen colour. Horizontal failure will be indicated by a dotted line and Vertical failure will be indicated by a solid line. The envelopes will be printed in the output window and you can also transfer the results of sight distance checking to a CAD layer, allowing complete flexibility and even greater functionality.
