Knowledge Base attended the Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction
(CIB) World Congress 2007 this week at the ICC Cape Town. Between 300 and 350 delegates, consisting largely of international decision-makers,
attended the Congress and some 270 papers were presented.
|
The theme 'Construction for Development' focused on the important role that construction plays in the development of nations and brought fresh insight into effective techniques and best practice methodolgies. A number of papers brought attention to the increasing importance of integrated approaches in infrastructural design both in terms of project role players and in terms of the technolgy and tools implemented. Mr Peter Barrak was elected as the new ICB president at the presidential address on 15 May.

KERB EDITING
 |
Civil Designer users can now look forward to even greater functionality in the upcoming 6.5 version. New enhancements in the Roads module include a Kerb Editor which will allow you to incorporate kerbs in cross sections and also allow you to calculate the kerb quantities. You can build up your own library of kerbs, or use the existing kerb library that is supplied with the program.

The user friendly Kerb Editor defines and edits kerb geometry and formulae that will be used to calculate quantities. With this new function, the generation of kerbs on cross section plots can be done in a matter of seconds.

Standardising With Civil Designer |

On Friday 11 May the Knowledge Base team met with top PD Naidoo & Associates management to discuss the benefits of standardising on Civil Designer. The company has 10 national and four international offices specialising in engineering activities ranging from civil and structural, electrical and mechanical, traffic, transportation and roads
|
to water, management services, mining and industrial, geotechnical and other related services.

GAMA Conference 2007 |

Knowledge Base co-sponsored and was represented at the 14th Group Africa Member Associations (GAMA) Conference which took place on 14 - 17 May at Gaborone, Botswana. With the theme 'Engineering Services, Value for Money', this year's conference was hosted by the Association of Consulting Engineers
|
Botswana (ACEB) and focused on the relationship between consulting engineers and procuring entities, innovation and Continuing Professional Development (CPD). Knowledge Base was pleased to support the event as it assisted with an improved understanding of pertinent issues facing African Consulting Engineers.
