ADDRESSING THE SA SKILLS SHORTAGE

The Knowledge Base Recruitment Centre is now in a position to assist foreign candidates with the acquisition of work permits through a qualified Immigration Officer and in association with the Department of Home Affairs.

Non South African Civil Engineers and design staff will now be able to offer their services to South African Civil Engineering consulting firms for short to long term assignments. This initiative will attempt to address the South African skills shortage presently experienced in the industry.

NEW FEATURES IN 6.4's WATER MODULE

The principle challenge of any water engineer is to maintain effectiveness by ensuring that the lowest total cost is maintained in relation to water utility. The upcoming water module in Civil Designer 6.4 has done just that by introducing new features intended to save you both time and money.

In the new version, pipes can be imported from multiple CAD layers. For each layer it is possible to specify the pipe material, class, nominal and internal diameter.

The manipulation of data is also more user-friendly in 6.4 and can be edited in a spreadsheet like environment. In addition, fields that are included in the spreadsheet and their order can be freely customized. You no longer have to manually click on each entity to see the data as the data Spreadsheet function allows you to view all the data at once. All information is therefore edited and viewed in one window.

Another handy feature in the new version is the addition of pumps with variable speed settings. The software will then automatically adjust the pump speed to maintain either preset delivery or preset pressure. Variable speed pumps are essentially useful in situations when for any reason elevated storage is not possible or is not economically viable to build. So the pumps have to discharge directly into the network, allowing for a much more viable cost saving alternative.

With all the functionality in the upcoming 6.4 version the program has gone one step further in making life a lot easier.
