Last year's meetings saw the implementation of steps toward the development of sustainable programmes in South African Land Reform and Geo-spatial Information Management as institutes in the industry collaborated in their efforts to promote similar objectives. At these meetings, Knowledge Base exhibited their Civil Designer and AllyCAD software and established important links with SAGI members.

Adding and Analysing Sewer Erf Connections

Civil Designer 6.4 includes a number of features that simplify the addition of erf connections to a sewer network model and allow for quick checking to ensure that all your erven is able to drain successfully to your designed sewer network.

Adding new erf connections is made easy via the Edit > Erf Connection Defaults option. Here the various default settings can be adjusted to define whether the connection is to be 'In Road Reserve', 'Inside Erf' or 'Outside Erf'. All the parameters are dynamically entered when new erf connections are added. These parameters can be adjusted individually for each erf connection.

Clicking within the polygon that indicates the erf where the new connection is to be added will interpolate and enter the minimum ground level on the erf. As the cursor is moved along erven boundaries the project elevations are interpolated from the selected soft material DTM surface (Natural Ground Surface) and displayed in the prompt. The user can therefore examine the elevations along the boundary which is closest to the main sewer line to determine the position of the new connection point.

The 'Analyse' erf connection functionality highlights any 'Not Possible Erf Connections' using the labelling and colour codes specified by the user. Length, distances, levels, cover or slope details can easily be adjusted and the connections re-analysed to ensure that they drain successfully to the main sewer line. With increased functionality in the upcoming 6.4 version, adding and analysing sewer erf connections is now the easy part of your day.
