SPEED PROFILES

The new Auxillary Lanes Function in Civil Designer 6.5 includes a 'Speed Profiles' tool
which calculates the point on an ascent at which a climbing lane should be positioned.
The program analyses the vertical alignment using an algorithm that takes power to mass ratio and the wind resistance of a design vehicle into

account. It also allows for coasting due to gear changes and then suggests the positions of climbing
lanes according to the loss of speed of the vehicle.

2010 and Beyond |

This year's IMESA conference to be held at the International Convention Centre in Durban between 23-26
October focuses on sustainable municipal engineering for 2010 and beyond.
Knowledge Base will be exhibiting their Civil Designer software and will pay particular attention to
new enhancements in the upcoming 6.5 version. The software is constantly being updated to
accommodate the dynamic changes taking place within the civil engineering and municipal engineering
professions.
We look forward to connecting with municipal engineers and professionals at this year's conference.
