KNOWLEDGE BASE EXHIBITS AT THE CAPE PENINSULA UNIVERSITY OF
TECHNOLOGY (CPUT)
The CPUT Graduate Fair was held on
Wednesday 7 and Thursday 8 September at the major sports
hall of the Bellville Campus. Knowledge Base was one of the
exhibitors at the exhibition and took the opportunity of
promoting the multiple uses of civil engineering and CAD
design to students and learners.
The exhibition was attended by over four thousand students
from various course disciplines and students were encouraged
to participate in both Civil Designer and AllyCAD
competitions in order to increase an awareness of the
software. Civil Engineering students were also introduced to
the Knowledge Base Recruitment service, a resource that was
greatly welcomed by all the graduates.

SEWER FUNCTIONALITY
Sewer is a foul water network analysis and design module
that combines interactive drawing functions with powerful
design functionality. The program allows for comprehensive
network analysis. You can analyze the entire network, a
portion of the network or a sub-network. Flows are
attenuated according to the inflow method while internal
culvert dimensions are used for flow calculations in order
to ensure hydraulic accuracy.
Sewer calculates culvert size, slope inlet and outlet level,
flow, capacity, velocity, flow depth and hydraulic grade in
a matter of seconds. The program also models a network that
consists of both existing and new culverts. Culverts that do
not have a size, invert level and/or slope will
automatically be designed according to the design
parameters. In most cases, multiple inflows may be specified
at each node and may be user-defined in the inflow
parameters tables.
You can easily simulate the complex system of flows and
overflows that are often found in modern towns and cities.
The design will take into account the hydraulic and
geometric relationship between the different branches in the
network. Once you have completed the analysis, the network
may be displayed according to specific criteria with minimum
effort. This powerful module is ideal for the data capture
of foul water GIS models as data may be transferred between
Sewer and MAP at any time.
