Knowledge Base
Recruitment Centre
Goes “LIVE”
The Knowledge Base
Recruitment Centre
(KBR) has gone
“live”. Job
seekers in the
technical field
may now add their
CV’s online to the
KBR database,
which once
approved, will be
uploaded onto the
website. Potential
candidates will
also be able to
search the
website/database
for current jobs
available, while
employers can
check online for
new recruits.
KBR serves to
provide support to
the civil
engineering
consulting firms
and strives to
secure the future
of Civil
Engineering.
Essentially, it
aims to bridge the
gap between the
employer and
technical staff.
Industry sectors
that are targeted
include middle to
senior level
engineers,
designers,
architects,
electrical
engineers,
quantity
surveyors, GIS
operators, natural
scientists,
engineering
geologists and
town planners. The
Centre draws on a
database of top
personnel who are
available for both
permanent and
contract positions
in South Africa.
There is also a
special emphasis
on graduate
recruitment.
Most of the
universities and
technikons are
existing users of
Civil Designer and
AllyCAD. This
means that we are
able to source
some of the best
graduates from the
engineering and
design faculties.
Our relationship
with tertiary
institutions is
largely contained
in our social
responsibility
plan that
prescribes the use
of our software at
a heavily
discounted rate.
In terms of
secondary
institutions
however, the use
of our AllyCAD
software bears no
cost. We supply
annual prize
sponsorship to the
best achiever and
offer
certificates,
trophies and cash
incentives with
the primary aim of
promoting design
excellence.
KBR online
applications will
pave the way for
professional
personnel in the
engineering and
design fields so
that they can take
advantage of
exciting career
opportunities on
offer.

Service Clashes
One of the most
useful features of
Civil Designer is
that you can
calculate where
services may clash
or where these
clashes are within
a certain distance
of each other.
This can be done
in a matter of
seconds, allowing
you to continue
with your work
uninterrupted.
The Service
Clashes dialog box
allow you to check
for clashes
between any two
services such as
sewer, storm,
water or roads.
The second service
must however be
part of the
project. The drop
down list
contained in the
dialog box
contains a full
set of services
that you can
choose from. Once
you have selected
two services for
testing, you can
specify the
clearance required
between the
services. You then
click on the Check
button and sit
back as the
analysis begins.
Checking for
service clashes is
done quickly and
efficiently, and
there is minimal
effort.
As a clash is
found, the details
will be displayed
on the table. In
order to view the
position of the
clash, you simply
right click on the
table. The Design
Centre display
will then be
changed to
position the clash
on the centre of
the screen.

With Civil
Designer you don’t
have to spend long
hours checking for
clashes between
services. The
program will do
all this for you
while you spend
your valuable time
to optimize your
design and
increase
productivity.

We took the
decision
about a year
ago to
acquire the
Civil
Designer
suite of
computer
software.
The
integrated,
user-friendly
package
encompasses
all the
major
disciplines
from Sewer
through to
Roads and
has the
ability to
detect
service
clashes. We
are
currently in
the process
of
standardizing
our office
on Civil
Designer and
have since
requested
all designs
to be
submitted in
this format, |
