COMPANY NEWS - New Offering for our Customers
Knowledge Base is proud to announce a brand new service offering for our valued clients. As from the 1st of October the Knowledge Base Recruitment Centre is fully functional and all your recruitment needs can be handled directly. Through years of experience and specialization in the Civil Engineering and Design industries we can comfortably say that we are in the best position to make sure that you get the right person for the job.
After encountering numerous problems using the usual recruitment agents for our own staff needs, we realized that we were better qualified to sift through the applications ourselves as we know and understand the industry well. With a little restructuring and the employment of Yvonne Beebee, one of South Africa’s leading recruitment specialists, we are now in a sound position to help you source the best personnel to meet your specific needs.
Along with the typical assessment procedures, we use the following two integrated approaches when assessing staff:
-
Targeted Selection Method - provides insights into a candidates competency through a series of situational behavioural tests
-
Thomas International System - identifies and capitalizes on the strengths of people, enabling the organization to maximize their return on human investment.
With the above two approaches backed by our expertise and ability to acquire key information about potential candidates through our broad range of contacts, we guarantee that you will receive the best possible candidate that matches your organizational structure and who possesses the skills and competencies required to get the job done.
In addition to this, we will happily assist you to:
-
Develop a job description for the required position;
-
Complete a Human Job Analysis (HJA), designed to specify the behavioural requirements of the job function;
-
Write, design and place the advertisement in a widely read newspaper if we do not already have a suitable person on our database;
-
Manage candidate responses;
-
Administer the candidates Personal Profile Analysis (PPA);
-
Conduct the competency-based interviews;
-
Compile a short list based on our analysis for even further interviewing;
-
Conduct reference and qualification checks and assessments;
-
Correspond with unsuccessful candidates.
For more information and to get hold of the right person for the job, please feel free to contact our Recruitment Specialist Yvonne Beebee at yvonne@knowbase.co.za or telephone (021) 7011850.
We look forward to being of service to you!

CHECKING SIGHT DISTANCES
Need to check for blind rises, placement of climbing lanes and other anomalies? The latest Civil Designer 6.3 version has a fantastic, easy to use function that uses 3-Dimensional iteration.
This function calculates the areas along the road alignment where the driver cannot see the relevant object over a specified minimum sight distance. Areas are marked in a specified pen colour on either the vertical or horizontal alignment.

The program uses the batter cross-sections for sight checking. If the offsets of the toe points are less than the specified road reserve, then the program will include ground points beyond the toe points, up to the road reserve width when doing the sight distance checking.

Another amazing feature, is that you can transfer the results of sight distance checking to a CAD layer, allowing you to have complete flexibility and even greater functionality.

CUSTOMER SHOWCASE
Before You Can Build It, You Have To Survey It
Surveyors are the first people into the green fields to prepare the landscape for future development. People tend to take the hidden parts of infrastructure for granted. Turn on the tap and water just comes out.
"Sometimes in the planning not enough emphasis is placed on these non-visible services. You can't have a clinic or a library without a road to service it. Medicines, books and personnel can't get there, the people can walk there, but that's no good if there isn't anybody to help them. And before you build it, you have to survey it," says Peter Whitwam, Senior Survey Technician of the City of Cape Town, based in Durbanville.
