DESIGNING THE FUTURE WITH CIVIL DESIGNER

BKS Consulting Engineers are cruising to new heights with the tender award of five 2010 stadia in a joint venture.
|
Among the projects in preparation for the 2010 World Cup are the Kings Park stadium in Durban, the Port Elizabeth stadium, the Bloemfontein stadium and the new R2,49 billion Green Point Stadium in Cape Town. The design of the new Green Point Stadium, for which building operations are scheduled to commence in January 2007, began in earnest in March 2006 and entails a variety of tasks from urban development and bulk infrastructure upgrade, to the actual construction of the stadium.
The conceptual designs for the future stadium were detailed with the help of Civil Designer, and the program will continue to play a fundamental part in helping to design the future. Knowledge Base is proud to be associated with long term projects like these, and would like to congratulate BKS Consulting Engineers for securing their fifth 2010 stadium!

CIVIL DESIGNER IN 2006
Civil Designer has proved itself as the infrastructure design tool of choice for the civil engineering industry in South Africa and its reputation is growing internationally. Version 6.4 was released earlier this year and has demonstrated
improved functionality with over 154 new enhancements and features that were developed according to specific requests and needs in the industry. Looking back over 2006, our clients have been most notably appreciative of the following improvements:
THE SEWER FUNCTIONALITY IN VERSION 6.4
The Sewer module in Civil Designer 6.4 makes provision for erf connection functionality. Erf connections can now be graphically inserted using the familiar Sewer interface while the program automatically indicates the lowest point on each erf. The Erf connection database can be analysed to report results and warn where erf-connections are unable to drain to the main line. The program will calculate the maximum or
highest allowable invert level of the sewer at the connection point and the required minimum invert level of the erf or property connection according to the specified design parameters in a matter of seconds. The improved Sewer functionality has been highly regarded for its top-class functionality.
PIPE SIZING IN VERSION 6.4
Another notable new feature in version 6.4 was the add-on Pipe Sizing module which integrates with the existing Water Module. The Pipe Sizing functionality has been developed using simulated annealing methodology and provides a pipe sizing tool which meets the long awaited objective of providing a world class pipe sizing tool.
SWMM IN VERSION 6.4
The advanced Storm Water Management Model (SWMM) represents a dynamic rainfall-runoff simulation that is used for single event or continuous simulation of runoff quantity and quality from primarily urban areas. The integration of SWMM into Civil Designer 6.4 allows for a comprehensive Storm Water Management tool with numerous applications ranging from the design and sizing of drainage system components for flood control to the evaluation of BMPs for reducing wet weather pollutant loadings.
