Add Auxiliary Lane (version 6.5)



This Tech Tip explains how to use the Add Auxiliary Lane function.


Adding the Auxiliary Lane (using the menu).

Alignment Menu › Edge Levels › Add Auxiliary Lane

This function will add the appropriate width entries to the Edge Levels Spreadsheet to create an auxiliary lane

For Single Carriageway Roads:




 

Lane Width Enter the width of the auxiliary lane to be inserted
Taper in Length Enter the length of the lead in taper
Start Chainage Enter the start chainage of the auxiliary lane to be inserted after the lead in taper.
End Chainage Enter the end chainage of the auxiliary lane to be inserted before the lead out taper.
Taper out Length Enter the length of the lead out taper
Templates Enter the template names you want to use on the tapers and auxiliary lane. Select the "No Change" option to prevent a template change.
Lane Settings Indicate the lane to which the auxiliary lane should be added.



In this example we are going to add an auxiliary lane between chainage 100 to chainage 150.



Click OK to add the auxiliary lane.

 

 

The auxiliary lane is shown.

 

For Dual Carriageway Roads:

 

There are 2 dialogs, depending on the lane settings.



 


 


 

Lane Width Enter the width of the auxiliary lane to be inserted
Taper in Length Enter the length of the lead in taper
Start Chainage Enter the start chainage of the auxiliary lane to be inserted after the lead in taper.
End Chainage Enter the end chainage of the auxiliary lane to be inserted before the lead out taper.
Taper out Length Enter the length of the lead out taper
Templates Enter the template names you want to use on the tapers and auxiliary lane. Select the "No Change" option to prevent a template change.
Lane Settings (Shoulder Side, Median Side) Indicate whether the auxiliary lane should be applied on the shoulder, or on the median of the dual carriageway road.
Lane Settings (Left Side, Right Side) Indicate to which lane the auxiliary lane should be added.


 

Adding the Auxiliary Lane (Graphically).

 

Alignment Menu › Edge Levels › Edit Super

 

Right click on the window to get the following dialog.


 

 

Select Add Auxiliary lane

 

Civil Designer will prompt :

 



 

Indicate the start of the lane.

 

Civil Designer will prompt:






Indicate the end of the lane. Once the end position has been indicated, you will be presented with the Add Auxiliary Lane dialog, allowing finer adjustments. Note the Start and End chainages indicate the graphical indicated positions.




 

Click OK

 

The display will be updated to show the new lane.
