Converting a DXF FIle Into A DTM



This tip explains how to convert a DXF file that has line and point data into a Civil Designer project.

 
The DXF file that will be converted.

 


 


Creating the project

Create a new project via the File Menu › New Project, create a new blank dtm file. Select Terrain, and specify the path to the new file, Civil Designer will create the dtm file.

 


 

Click OK to continue.

Converting the DXF File

The next step is to convert the DXF file into a format that Civil Designer can import into a project.

In Survey Mode, Conversion Menu › Extract DXF

Select the DXF file that needs to be converted.

 


 

Click Open to continue.

Select a name for the ASCII file that needs to be created.

 


 

Click Save to continue.

The lines in the DXF file can be converted to feature lines or break lines.

 


 

Civil Designer will now convert the DXF file into an ASCII file, that can be imported into the project.

Importing the ASCII file

Survey Mode, File Menu › Import › ASCII YXZ

Select the new ASCII file that was created.

 


 

Click Open to continue.

 


 

Click Next to continue.

 


 

Click on top of each column to assign a data field to the column.

 


 

Click Finish to continue.

Select the surface for the points.

 


 

Click OK to continue.

 


 

The data is imported.
