
Installing NetHASP LM (network dongles)
This Tech Tip explains how to install the NetHASP License Manager (LM).
Note: Windows 9x (95, 98 & ME) are no longer supported.
Step 1, Installing the License Manager
Network dongles operate differently to the standard dongles and additional software needs to be installed.
On the computer that will be the "dongle server", the NetHASP License Manager software needs to be installed. The following is only required on the server computer, any computer in the office can be setup as the "dongle
server".
To install the software, you will need a Civil Designer/AllyCAD or AllyCAD installation CD.
Insert the installation CD; when the program installation starts the Knowledge Base Product Installation screen that appears. Open Windows Explorer and click on the CD drive. Click on the LMSetup folder; double click on the
LMSetup.exe file (or LMSetup, depending on your Windows Explorer option settings)
The following dialog will appear

Select the desired language and click OK

Click Next to continue.

Click Install to continue.

Select
Service and click Next to continue.
The next dialog that appears allows you to change the folder where the program is installed, to keep it as simple as possible, and accept the default settings.

Click Next to continue.

Click Next to continue.
The new License Manager will configure the Windows XP SP2 firewall, use the default settings.

Click Next to continue.
Once the License Manager has been installed, the program can be started. Use the default settings.

Click Finish to continue.
Once the NetHASP License Manager is installed, a new icon will appear in the system tray.

Once the NetHASP License Manager is installed, right click on the red icon in the system tray, select show to open the program.

The dialog that appears lists the current loaded protocols that the License Manager is using. The Load and Remove menus allow the user to add or remove protocols. Setting up the "dongle server" is now complete.
On the workstation computer:
Install Civil Designer or AllyCAD, when the installation dialog appears select the program that you want to install, and select a typical installation. After installation is complete, reboot the computer.
After the computer has restarted, open Civil Designer or AllyCAD. Click on the File Menu ›
Security › Check Network Dongles, change the default value of 0 to 1, press enter to accept changes. There will be error messages because the software is not yet authorised, click OK to ignore these
errors.
Close Civil Designer/AllyCAD.
Reopen Civil Designer/AllyCAD, a dialog will appear in the top left hand corner "attempting nethasp login" during this period program is searching the network for possible dongles. This can be time consuming depending on the
speed of the network. The speed of logging on can be improved if the server has a fixed IP address.
If your "dongle server" has a fixed IP address, then follow these steps to improve the speed of the logging on process.
Close Civil Designer/AllyCAD.
Click on the Start Button, Programs, Civil Designer/AllyCAD, Security Tools, HASP, Install Diagnostics.

Click Ok to continue

Click Next to continue.

Use the default settings, click Next to continue.
Allow the program to make backups.

Click Next to continue.

Click Next to continue.

Click Finish to complete the installation.
Step 2, Creating the nethasp.ini file
Once the program is installed, the nethasp.ini file needs to be created.
Start Button , Program Files (or All Programs), Aladdin, DiagnostiX, Aladdin DiagnostiX

Click on the HASP red Icon on the left hand side of the screen and click on the + sign. Select nethasp.ini

Select Customized.ini file. For Windows we select Servers IP

Once Servers IP is selected, click on the browse button (far right).
Depending on your server configuration, Tokens might be listed on the screen.

Select the required Token i.e. the IP address of the computer with the network dongle installed. If no Tokens are listed select User Definedand type in
the required IP address.
Use the arrow buttons to select the required Token (IP)

The Token (IP) will be shown.

The nethasp.ini file needs to be created in the c:\civdes6x or c:\allycad3x folder.
On the bottom of the dialog, select the Browse
button, browse to the correct folder.

The new output path will be shown.

Click Create to create the nethsap.ini file.
Authorising the Software:
For security purposes, we don't ship any dongles pre-authorised.
To authorise the software follow these steps:

Install the software and reboot if requested to by the installation program, this makes sure that all the correct drivers are loaded.
- Plug in the dongle
- Open the program, and for authorisation log on as Guest (a new user can be created next time the user opens the program)
- Click on the File Menu › Security › Authorise option. If any error messages appear click OK or Next to continue.
- The following dialog will appear on the screen:

On this screen you will see the User Code, there are now 3 ways to authorise your software as shown below the authorisation code.
6. Once you have received the Confirmation code, type it into the area provided and click the Authorised button.
7. If the code entered is correct the program will be authorised and a dialog will appear informing the user what has been authorised.

If there is an error the following will appear:

Checking Authorisation:
In the latest versions of Civil Designer and AllyCAD there is a function to find out what has been authorised on a dongle plugged into the computer. This function is available on the Help Menu › About

Troubleshooting: (only for Civil Designer)
If you receive a NetHASP 130 error message, this means that you don’t have the full AllyCAD license. To prevent this error from appearing follow these steps:
Click on the Windows Start Button, and then click on Run. In the dialog that appears type knowbase.ini and press enter. The following screen appears.

We need to change the FullCAD=1 entry to 0, and then save the file. Make sure that Civil Designer is closed before editing this file.
