Intelli-Lines vs Triangulation
When generating line models for a surface the user
has a choice between using Intelli-Lines and
Triangulation. The decision as to which mode to use
should be based on the type of point model presented. |
Triangulation is a "brute force" approach which
applies a Delauney triangulation to the site. While
this is a fast method of producing a line model, there
are certain drawbacks which must be taken into
account.
Firstly, as the name implies, triangle models are
produced. Triangles are not always the best method of
representing a surface plane as they simplify the
model too much in areas of great detail.
Triangulation does not
allow you to use "computer
time" to generate the feature lines.
Intelli-Lines on the other hand are all that their
name implies. Using a process of polygon creation with
multi-pass processing, the Intelli-Line option tends
to produce a far better conditioned line model than
triangulation.
CIVIL DESIGNER Intelli-Line processing can be carried
out in one of two modes. In the first mode, only a
single pass is made over the model at a time.

In the second mode, up to four passes
can be made at a time.

To set up the four pass mode add the setting MaxAuto=4 in the [Terrain]
section of CIVDES.INI
In either mode you can specify point names which
should be processed and the maximum search distance
within which to join points. This allows breaklines to
be defined automatically during the line generation
process where specific names have been assigned to
points defining breakline features. |
